Do you know about the Tomato festival in Spain or the Rio Carnival in Brazil? These are huge festivals which are famous globally. Everyone wants to go there, but it is difficult to go to these festivals since we are just university students without money. So, we are going to introduce three interesting festivals in Korea: the Mud Festival, Bibimbap Festival, and Chunhyang Festival.

Boryeong Mud Festival

If you like doing something different and fun and like meeting people, why don`t you go to the Mud Festival? You can enjoy mud which is good for skin and play on the beach at the same time!

This is one of the most famous festivals in Korea. In addition, it`s the festival which foreigners love the most. I`m sure that you have heard of it at least once before. I went to this festival in 2010, and I thought it was great. Thus, I want to recommend it to you. It can be experienced from July 14 to July 24 for nine days this year. It will be held in Daechun beach, Boryeong-city, Chungnam.

You can participate in the events from 10:00am to 7:30pm every day. All facilities are provided with safety as a priority. There are many events such as mudfall adventure, mud raining tunnel, conquering mud peak, kids` mud land, colored mud zone, mud wrestling, mud king contest, mud fireworks fantasy, mudpool sliding, and so on.

Then, how can you get there? The best way is by car, as public transport is difficult. But if you want to go to Daechun beach with your friends, you can take an intercity bus, a train or an airplane to Gunsan, then catch local buses.

You can enjoy this festival for free! There are some paid events at night, but you can enjoy the other daily events free of charge. If you have more questions, you can contact the festival`s managers on 043) 930-3557 or 043) 930-3882 or you can access it`s homepage at http://www.mudfestival.or.kr/

Are you searching for a special and tasty festival? Then, LET`S GO to Jeonju Bibimbap Festival 2012!

At the Jeonju Bibimbap Festival you can enjoy great food, style and fun with one of Korea`s representative traditional foods: Bibimbap.

The Jeonju Bibimbap Festival 2012 offers you great opportunities with fun programs. In one program you can make Bibimbap by using your own recipe as well as taste traditional Bibimbap.  Two other special programs include the Hanok village Road Trip and Bibim Performance. One of the most interesting programs in the festival is “Bibim POP&Culture”. In this program, you could see Bibim percussion performance: A famous B-boy crews perform om a special stage with Korean traditional folk music. You could not only feel Bibimbap but also fresh Korean culture in this festival.

Jeonju is the perfect place for the festival because it is a very historical Korean style city with harmony and traditional spirit. This city has conserved the traditions of Korea by preserving Korean-style houses, serving Korean food, and performing the pansori. Above all things, there is a Hanok Village where the Bibimbap Festival is held. After eating tasty Bibimbap, what about walking around Hanok Village where there is a millennium-old history?

Chunhyang Festival
When? Every year around 5/5
Where? Namwon Gwanghanru

Do you know ‘ChunhyangJun’? It is little bit strange to ask this question because every Korean knows where Chunhyang is and the story of Chunhyang. The Chunhyang Festival is famous for programs which are very diverse and characteristic. The programs are divided into 4 categories: Traditional Cultural Events, Art Performances, Experience Events, and Appendant Events.
The Traditional Cultural Events are the most popular during the Festival and consist of three items. The first one is the ritual service ceremony. This performance shows the tradition of Korea very well. The second is some kind of experiential event called ‘Into the time of Chunhyang’. There, people can experience life in the Chosun Dynasty by, for example, shopping at traditional markets, watching the birthday party of the district governor and a witnessing a traditional marriage. The third item is ‘The lady Chunhyang Pageant’, which is the most famous and representative ceremony of the Chunhyang Festival. ‘The lady Chunhyang Pageant’ is different to other typical beauty contests in that the winner is elected not only on the basis of beauty but also on the basis of morality and values.
The Chunhyang Festival can be expressed in one word: ‘AMAZING’. Although Namwon is a small town, you can feel the passion and warmth of the residents of Namwon. Come and enjoy the Chunhyang Festival!
